SJIWFF selects six for Producers Cohort program above portraits of women on white, black, and blue backgrounds.

Claire Desmarais is one of six producers selected from across Canada to participate in a five-month development program designed to drive gender equity and support producers ready to advance their practice and expand their impact and capacity at a national level. Combining targeted group labs with individualized mentorship, the program culminates in an in-person industry intensive at the St. John’s International Women’s Film Festival (SJIWFF) in October 2026.


Claire will be mentored by writer, director, and producer Sherry White (Oversherry Productions), who, among many other achievements, is widely known as the co-creator of the hit CBC comedy series PRETTY HARD CASES and the award-winning writer of the Canada/Ireland co-production MAUDIE (2016), starring Ethan Hawke and Sally Hawkins.
